Stem!.

This Report and Estimate is brought forward for authority to expend in the present year various sums on account of repairs to the Roads not strictly ordinary repairs to be within the limits of the City and suburbs.

Miles 1 080 Cyds @ 30

The several services required under the heading & Inter - principally executed by days labor from time to time as circumstances require, this being the most available mode.

Contractors are not to be found willing to undertake the responsibility of repairing roads subject to such damages by floods.

The Chinese two overseers attached to the Department; who are provided with horse allowance, take the Superintendents of those works under Stanley to my directions, the several gangs they consoley working on charge of who are responsible for their work and conduct.

Considerable difficulty is experienced in carrying out the works effectively as I should wish in consequence of the smallness of any European staff: though the Clerk of Works lately appointed has assisted.
